I've been constantly rambling about the wonderful blogs that I am reading these days ( Reason why many of my friends have blocked me on Whatsapp, I can babble for hours) Blogs about food, recipes, mythology, cultural differences, environmental blogs, education, childhood and a lot of random but pretty amazing stuff.
Here is my most priced find: Mumbai Magic!
Mumbai magic is a blog written about Mumbai by three women, Deepa Krishnan, her mother Janaki and her daughter Aishwarya. They talk about their experiences in this incredible city, interlacing the lifestyle and culture of the different communities. Deepa runs Mumbai magic tours, a company that she quit her banking career for.
This is one blog that covers the different faces of the city. A few that have been talked about again and again and a few forgotten ones that Deepa re-introduces us to.
They say that ' Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder'. While reading this blog ( I read all the posts in two days, I was so hooked!) I was amazed by how these women beautify simple things that we usually neglect. The blog is not just about the food, or the markets, or the people or tourism. It is full of life. You'll know what I mean when you read the blog. I stumbled upon little treats in this blogs, rituals and traditions that are described alluringly.
Another thing that I liked about the blog, possibly the best thing about the blog is that these amazing women let us decide for overselves. They do not impose their opinions on us. They come as fair-minded people who don't overlook the daunting sides of the city, but don't have the accusatory tone either.
The site of Mumbai magic offers a lot of walking tours in Mumbai and some other cities. I am going to catch one the next time I am in one of those cities.
I always crib about how I don't get satisfactory answers to my questions about our customs. The last few days have been different though, I've found very interesting books and blogs on cultural topics. I actually get to read the 'whys' instead of the 'what', 'when' and 'how'. Real logical reasons that surprisingly make sense. More about that in my next post!!
